Incentive - Live Art Performance 2023

"Here's the finished film to my art performance 'Incentive.' Within this performance, I aim to stretch the functionality of an art piece. To shine light on the financial dependence an artist has towards their work, and the cascading events that can happen if the art is not capable of sustaining that artist. I force the art out of its stagnant, rigid form and mold it out of necessity, out of starvation, out of survival. The action brings into question, "When must an art piece abandon its primary function in order to keep its creator alive?" And also brings into question society's role in all of this. Even the song played during my performance, "Caravan" from the film Whiplash was meant to compare the bittersweet relationship of the protagonist and antagonist of that film with the real world artist's relationship with art. (A lot of layers to unpack lol) Oh! And by the way, I destroyed a copy of my art piece, NOT the original. I never told anyone it was a copy but I also never told anyone it was the original lol. Just wanted to give an extra ounce of shock value to the audience. It was also a test run to see what would've become of my original art piece if I had actually used that instead, good to know it wouldn't have been bought. That's why we run these tests lol. The amazing videographer, editor, and filmmaker behind this is my very talented and supportive friend, Phoenix. "
